Week of May 26th
Wow! What a busy couple of weeks and only a few left to go. It's hard to believe that the end of the school year is near.
Curriculum Corner
Social Studies: After a week of planning and preparation last week, the grade 4's are right in the middle of presenting their ancient civilization society to their classmates.
Language: We are just wrapping up our legends unit. The students are currently writing their first draft of their very own legend.
Math: Along with learning about proper, improper and mixed fractions, the math goal this week is incorporating decimals into our learning.
Track & Field Meet Tomorrow!!
~ Permission forms and note regarding pick up and dismissal upon return to school (after 3:30 p.m)
~ Red Siena shirt worn to school, along with proper physical education attire (shorts, running shoes)
~ Sun safety: hat, sunscreen and plenty of water
~ Body fuel: healthy snacks, lunch and juice
* About half of our class is attending the Track and Field meet tomorrow, and we wish them all the best. What a wonderful opportunity, to show your Siena Spirit. Our grade 4 athletes will leave and check in regularly with Mrs. Larizza. If parents plan on attending and cheering their children on tomorrow, please let Mrs. Larizza know if you think you will leave TD Waterhouse with your child.*
Have a good week! :)

Happy Victoria Day Long Weekend!
What a successful and exciting day! Thank you to all the donations for today's dress down for diabetes.
Roman Day was a success. We had Chariot races, played Roman games, made theatre masks and had timed aqueduct building.
A quick and important update:
Ancient Civilization Project Work ~ on Thursday your child was given the outline for a project that they will be completing in class next week. Their task this weekend, was to research any information on their desired ancient civilization topic and collect any materials they may need for their project (i.e.printed research, posters, maps, artifacts, poster board etc.). We will be working, in class, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to complete projects for Friday. The students are able to be as creative as they would like to be on how they would like to present their projects, whether it be through; a diorama, a museum display with artifacts, power point presentation etc. It explains it all in the booklet guideline they were given yesterday.
Homework Update ~ After their Roman day events, the grade 4's worked hard all afternoon independently or in groups to complete their final tasks in their social studies unit. It was assigned for homework, but knowing it is the long weekend, it is understandable if all the social studies work cannot be completed for Tuesday.

Monday May 5th ~ Liturgy in the gymnasium.
Tuesday May 6th ~ The students will begin working on their 3D Shape Mini Project.
~ Library Day, please have students return books today.
Wednesday May 7th ~ Track & Field Tryouts
~ Novel Study wrap up; Students will begin presenting their book reports on "Tales of
a Fourth Grade Nothing"
Curriculum Corner
Math
We will continue learning about 3D nets/shapes and capacity. This week the students will be a little more hands on with math as they will be creating their own 3D model and poster. A note went home Friday explaining the project, so students can begin to collect items needed for their project. Please keep in mind that students will be using class time to create their math project on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Language
We are finally wrapping up our novel study, Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. We have read, answered questions and laughed at Fudge and his shenanigans. Last week, we discussed book report options and how the grade 4's can present their understanding of the novel. It's simple, yet fun. There is so much excitement surrounding their book reports, that I am looking forward to seeing what the students come up with.
This week in Language, we will launch our Legends unit. The Grade 4's will read and learn about the features of legendary tales.
Social Studies
We continue learning about early societies. The class discussions are so full of meaning, with added personal connections. So much learning is happening and what a pleasure it is to see the students grow. Please watch for a note to come home soon about a special day, we have planned for the students. :)
