Week in Review

Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week

Motivational speaker, Saidat, returns to St. Catherine of Siena to help teachers and students "survive school" by believing in oneself and each other. This is this first step to making a difference.  Saidat uses music and movement to motivate students to recognize their gifts and the gifts of others.

Here's a peek at what we did.

Our very own Emma, teaching Mrs. Leo the Cups song.
So proud of you, Emma!

You did it, Mrs. Leo! Emma made a difference in Mrs. Leo's life.

Welcome St. Catherine of Siena, to the "Saidat Show." Our very own Mrs. Petrenko, shared how when she first came to this country, her family didn't speak a word of English and she had to learn a lot of things by herself at school. Until one person, came up to her and made a difference in her life.  Thank you for sharing your story, Mrs. Petrenko!

Bump it Up

As a class, we took three questions from the Unit 2 math test and "bumped" up our work. The students worked in pairs, and then we all came together to share and discuss what we could have done to earn a level  3/4. An Achievement Categories in Mathematics ~ What to Look folder went home on Friday. In it you should find the results of Bumping Up Our Work/Math Bump it Up along with your child's work.

To be more familiar with the achievement categories, please keep this parent friendly folder handy for future reference. :)

Just wrapping things up for the day and thought I would send a mid-week update.

The Wizard of Oz ~ Please send $4.00 and signed permission form to school as soon as possible.

Science Test ~ After much thought and wanting the students to be successful, I have decided to push back the Science Test to Monday November 25th, 2013. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Math~  A friendly reminder to return your children's Place Value math test to school. They didn't go home in their assessment folders, as I am still waiting on students to return them from the previous assessment. Please keep in mind the Math Test that was expected for Thursday November 28th will go ahead as scheduled.

Curriculum Update

Family Life – For the last little while, we have been discussing how we are “Created and Loved by God.” On Friday, an "at home" project was sent home in their Religion/Family Life duo-tangs. The due date is Monday Dec. 2, 2013.
Math – Last week we began our Data Management unit. The students will collect data, sort and conduct surveys for the next week. Our test is expected to be next Thursday.
Language – The students have been learning about how to write a summary. A tricky task for most, but we will get to achieve that goal. We will have a summary assessment on Friday November 22nd.
Science – The students did a great job coming together and constructing their Habitat Diorama’s. What an exciting and engaging task. The students will be doing a short presentation explaining their habitats. Their final test will be this Thursday, the students have studied in class and will have more study opportunities provided to them.

Phys. Ed - The Grade 4's have been playing co-operative games; relays, kings court and understanding importance of team spirit. We have also been learning basic volleyball skills such as; setting, bumping and serving. Looks like we have some future volleyball players.

Social Studies – Learning about Canada, its provinces and its regions unit will continue this week.

Mrs. Dwyer's Fourth Grade Friends

Welcome to our new classroom blog,
  Fourth Grade Friends!

After a busy first quarter, we are thrilled to be up and running. This is where you can come for classroom weekly updates, curriculum ideas, important dates and educational websites.

Siena Cares Campaign

We are in the beginning of the Christmas season and giving is in the thoughts of many. In the Christmas spirit, our class will be sponsoring two
children for Christmas.  We are asking for a $2 donation towards the purchase of Christmas gifts. All money donations are asked to be in by Nov. 22nd as shopping will have to be done over the weekend to have the gifts ready for pick-up the following week.
Thank you for your continued support.
